Social media marketing isn’t something that’s likely to stay still for an extended period of time. It changes, evolves, and advances. If you want to keep up with social media, you have to be ready to adapt and take advantage of new opportunities.
On development that’s going to turn social media marketing upside down is Facebook’s new “Buy” button. If you haven’t heard of this yet, then brace yourself.
Facebook is developing a feature that will let users buy a product without leaving the site. This takes out just about every hurdle that there is in e-commerce. Right next to an advertisement on social media, there will be a conveniently-placed button for consumers who have interest in the product. Here’s how a recent Entrepreneur article describes the feature:
“A rapid advance in technology is making social-media sales increasingly within reach of businesses of all sizes. Transactions can be made through use of a hashtag. Facebook is launching a “Buy” button that lets users purchase items without leaving its platform. And new social-commerce capabilities empower marketers to drive sales on social media.”
So what exactly does this mean for social media marketers? Well for one, the ROI of social media marketing is about to take a nice-sized step in the right direction. A “Buy” button is the solution to many analysts’ qualms about social media; it represents a direct connection between advertisements and sales.
What other medium of advertising do you know of that lets you buy the product immediately? TV commercials require consumers to call or go online. Emails include links to the company’s website, just like social media marketing does now. But a buy button that lets people stay on Facebook just requires one click. That’s it.
